Steering column (at a cabriolet)

When the steering column is removed from the car, it is very easy for damaging.
If it to drop vertically, the steering shaft can break or can weaken plastic pins which regulate length of a column; if on it to lean, it can be bent or deformed. Any of the listed damages can worsen udaropogloshchayushchy properties of a column.
Weakening fixing bolts and nuts of a steering column, be convinced that the steering column and the bottom steering shaft are disconnected. If before weakening of fixing bolts and nuts a steering column and the bottom steering shaft not to separate, it can damage the bearing of the bottom steering shaft.

At carrying out service of a steering column or any knots established on it it is necessary to remove a steering wheel. But if the steering column acts in film to provide only access to toolbar components, the steering wheel can be not removed from a column. |
Removal
|
|
Never put a column vertically on the steering wheel overturned down by the module (надува) of a safety cushion. It can lead to a trauma. |
|
|
- Disconnect "minus" a battery cable.
- Disconnect safety cushion system. See preventions at the beginning of this Chapter.
- Remove a steering wheel and the contact coil with podrulevy switches if it is required. See in this Chapter of the Section the Steering wheel and the Contact coil and podrulevy switches.
- If the steering wheel and/or podrulevy switches remain on a place, execute the following manipulations:
- Turn a steering wheel so that forward wheels of the car were directed directly forward.
- Turn the ignition switch in the situation "LOCK" and take out a key.
- Uncover openings of a steering column (1).
- Disconnect all cables of the following knots:
- Contact coil and podrulevy switches.
- Ignition switch.

- Put stykovochny labels on the coupling of a shaft and a shaft (from a column) that on them it is correct to establish into place.

- Having unscrewed a bolt from a column on the coupling of a shaft and having weakened a bolt from the bottom shaft, pull the shaft coupling towards the bottom shaft (as shown shooters in drawing below).

- Unscrew fixing bolts of a steering column (6 pieces).

- If there is a cable of blocking of the switch (key), unscrew, and then disconnect a cable from the ignition switch.
- Remove a steering column from the car.

Check serviceability of a steering column and existence of damages as it is described in the Section Check of a steering column on damages at failure (at a cabriolet).
Installation
|
|
After fixing bolts of a steering column are tightened, tighten bolts of the coupling of a steering shaft. |
|
|
- Be convinced that forward wheels and a steering wheel are in the situation corresponding to rectilinear movement of the car.
- If there is a cable of blocking of the switch (key), fix it on the ignition switch. Inhaling moment: bolt of a cable of blocking of the switch (key) (a): 2.2 N • m (0.22 kg-m, 1.6 pounds foots).

- Establish a steering column (1) on the panel (4) and the top fixture so that the thickening of the bottom epiploon of a steering column (3) was projected through an opening in the panel in an engine compartment. Tighten at first the bottom bolts of a steering column (2) (4 pieces), and then the top bolts (5) (2 pieces) to the specified value of the moment of an inhaling. Inhaling moment: a fixing bolt of a steering column — 23 N • m (2.3 kg-m, 17.0 pounds foots).

- Dress the coupling of a steering shaft on a steering shaft, having combined the labels put before removal.

- Fasten a bolt of the coupling of a shaft (from a column) to the coupling of a steering shaft. At first tighten a bolt of the coupling of a shaft (from a column) to the specified value of the moment of an inhaling, and then a bolt of the coupling of a shaft (from the bottom party of a shaft) to the specified value of the moment of an inhaling. Inhaling moment: bolt of the coupling of a shaft (c): 25 N • m (2.5 kg-m, 18.0 pounds foots).

- If the contact coil and podrulevy switches were removed, establish them into place. See in this Chapter the Section the Contact coil and podrulevy switches.
- Connect all wires which were disconnected before removal.
- Establish a cover of an opening of a steering column.

- If the steering wheel was removed, establish it as the Steering wheel is described in this Chapter in the Section.
- Connect "minus" a battery cable.
- Having established a steering column, be convinced that the system of a safety cushion is included. See preventions at the beginning of this Chapter.
