Steering column (at not a cabriolet)
|
|
When the steering column is removed from the car, it is very easy for damaging.
If it to drop vertically, the steering shaft can break or can weaken plastic pins which regulate length of a column; if on it to lean, it can be bent or deformed. Any of the listed damages can worsen udaropogloshchayushchy properties of a column.
Weakening fixing bolts and nuts of a steering column, be convinced that the steering column and the top steering shaft are disconnected. If before weakening of fixing bolts and nuts a steering column and the top steering shaft not to separate, it can damage the top coupling and a fixing bracket of the top steering shaft.

At carrying out service of a steering column or any knots established on it it is necessary to remove a steering wheel. But if the steering column acts in film to provide only access to toolbar components, the steering wheel can be not removed from a column. |
Removal
|
|
Never put a column vertically on the steering wheel overturned down by the module (надува) of a safety cushion. It can lead to a trauma. |
|
|
Never turn a steering wheel when the steering column and a steering wheel are removed. Turn of a steering wheel more, than on two and a half turns, will break the contact coil. |
|
|
- Disconnect "minus" (–) a battery cable.
- Disconnect safety cushion system. See preventions at the beginning of this Chapter.
- Remove a steering wheel and the contact coil with podrulevy switches if it is required. See in this Chapter Sections the Steering wheel and the Contact coil and podrulevy switches.
- If the steering wheel and/or podrulevy switches remain on a place, execute the following manipulations:
- Turn a steering wheel so that forward wheels of the car looked directly forward.
- Turn the ignition switch in the situation "LOCK" and take out a key.

- Uncover a steering column (1).
|
- Disconnect all cables of the following knots:
- Contact coil and podrulevy switches.
- Ignition switch.
|
|
- Remove a bolt (1) and a nut (2) top couplings of the top steering shaft.
|
|
|
- Remove fixing bolts (2 pieces) (2) and nuts (2 pieces) (3) helmsman of a column (1).
|
|
|
- If there is a cable of blocking of the switch (key) (1), disconnect it from the ignition switch, having turned the ignition switch in the situation "ACC".
|
- After a detachment turn the ignition key in the situation "LOCK".
- Remove a steering column from the car.
|
|
Survey
Check serviceability of a steering column and existence of damages as it is described below in this Chapter in the Section Check of a steering column and the top shaft of a steering on existence of damages at failure (at not a cabriolet).
Installation
|
|
After a tightening of fixing bolts of a steering column it is necessary to tighten bolts of the coupling of a steering shaft. |
|
|
- Be convinced that the provision of forward wheels and a steering wheel correspond to rectilinear movement of the car.
|
|
- If there is a cable of blocking of the switch (key) (1), connect it to the ignition switch, having turned the ignition switch in the situation "ACC". Then turn the ignition switch in the situation "LOCK".
|
|
|
- Combine a point of "A" of a steering column (1) with an opening for a bolt of "B" of the top coupling of the top steering shaft. Then connect the top coupling of the top steering shaft.
|
|
|
- Establish a steering column (1) contact top party of the bottom shlitsa to fixing bolts. Tighten the bottom fixing nuts (3) helmsman of a column, and then the top fixing bolts (2) to the specified values of the moment of an inhaling. Inhaling moment: fixing bolts and nuts of a steering column (b): 25 N • m (2.5 kg-m, 18.0 pounds foots).

|
- Establish a bolt (2) top couplings of the top steering shaft and a nut (1). Tighten a nut (1) top coupling of the top steering shaft till the specified moment of an inhaling. Inhaling moment: a nut of the top coupling of the top steering shaft — (a): 23 N • m (2.3 kg-m, 17.0 pounds foots).

|
Do not use repeatedly a bolt and a nut of the top coupling of the top shaft. For installation take the new. |
- If the contact coil and podrulevy switches were removed, establish them as it is described in this Chapter in the Section the Contact coil and podrulevy switches.
- Connect all cables which were disconnected at removal of a steering column.
|
|
- Establish a cover of an opening of a steering column (1).
|
- If the steering wheel was removed, establish it as the Steering wheel is described in this Chapter in the Section.
- Connect "minus" (–) a cable to the battery.
- After installation of a steering column check that the system of a safety cushion is included. See preventions at the beginning of this Chapter.
