Check of a steering column and the top shaft of a steering on existence of damages at failure (at not a cabriolet)

At the had an accident cars with damage of a body the steering column can be damaged or its situation is broken.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Check reliability of fastening of two capsules (1) to a fixing bracket of a steering column. Check a gap between capsules and a fixing bracket of a steering column. From both parties the gap should make 0 mm (0 inches).
If there is a gap or capsules are weakened, replace a steering column.

Measure “a” distance. If it less than specified length, replace a column with the new. Length of the steering column "a": 490.3 ± 1.0 mm (19.30 ± 0.04 inches).

Check a steering shaft on smoothness of rotation. If defects are found, replace a steering column.
Check a steering shaft and a column on bends, cracks and deformations. If defects are found, replace a steering column.

Check the bottom epiploon (1) top steering shaft on existence of deformations or breakages. If defect is found, replace.

Check couplings of a steering shaft and a shaft on existence of any damages (cracks, breaks, malfunctions or excessive mobility). At detection of defects replace the bottom steering shaft or a steering column.

Measure “b” distance. If it less than specified length, replace the top steering shaft with the new. Length of the top steering shaft of "b": 419.0 ± 1.0 mm (16.50 ± 0.04 inches).
