Insufficiently charged battery

The slow provorachivaniye of the engine or light surface of the indicator with a red point can testify that the battery is insufficiently charged even if the lamp index works normally.

The following below procedure can be carried out also by means of the voltmeter or the ampermeter.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Be convinced that this condition does not grow out of that auxiliaries were left for the long period of time.
  2. Check a tension of a driving belt.
  3. If you suspect that the battery is faulty, see. Section Battery.
  4. Examine conducting on existence of defects. Be convinced that all connections (cable connections for connection of the battery, the starting engine and a cable of grounding of ignition) strong and pure.
  5. Connect the voltmeter and the ampermeter.

Voltmeter

Establish between the plug of the generator (B) and the grounding plug.

Ampermeter

Establish between the plug of the generator (B) and positive (+) the battery plug.

Use completely charged battery.

  1. Measure a current and tension.

1 — the generator
2 — the ampermeter
3 — the voltmeter
4 — the battery

Check idling

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Start the engine with a speed to 2000 rpm and read out indications.
    • Usual current: at most 10 A
    • Usual tension:
      • 14.4-15.0 V (at temperature 20 ° C, 85°F), type 60 A
      • 14.1-15.2 V (at temperature 20 ° C, 68°F), type 70 A and 85 A

Switch off all auxiliaries (yard keepers, a heater etc.).


If tension and temperature of the case of a regulator vary, this case demands consideration.


Type 60 A.
Type 70 A and 80 A.

High voltage

  1. If tension more usual, check grounding of brushes.
  2. If brushes are not earthed, replace IC regulator.

Low voltage

Type 60 A

  1. If tension normal or is lower than norm, increase speed of the engine to 2000-2500 rpm right after start of the engine and immediately measure the maximum indicators of the ampermeter.
  2. If the current makes less than 42 A, repair or replace the generator.

Type 70 A and 80 A

  1. If tension usual, carry out the following check.
  1. Earth the plug F and start the engine, then measure tension in the plug B.
  1. Tension is higher than the usual. It is considered that the generator in a good condition, but a regulator of IC is damaged. Replace IC regulator.
  2. Tension is lower than the usual. The generator is faulty, check the generator.

Tension check (only 70 A and 80 A)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Start the engine with speed of 2000 rpm and turn head headlights and the heater motor.
  2. Measure a current. If it makes less than 20 A (type 70 A) or 30 A (80 A), repair or replace the generator.
